GRAND RAPIDS – Superintendent Bernard Taylor is among seven semi-finalists to become the next superintendent of Broward County Public Schools in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“I am excited about it but at the same time there are other candidates that are involved in this and I know they are outstanding people,” said Taylor, who announced in June he would resign at the end of the school year. “It’s early in the process.”
Broward County – the sixth largest school district in the nation with more than 257,000 students- received 43 applications for the post.
Taylor, who has served five years with the district, was also a finalist to head the Syracuse and Cleveland school districts this year.
“I am going to give it my best shot,” Taylor said, emphasizing his commitment to Grand Rapids students while serving this school year. “I think I can demonstrate I can provide outstanding leadership and service but ultimately, its a process and we will see how it unfolds.”
