Twenty years ago, Anita Hill was a rising star in federal government working as an attorney-adviser to Clarence Thomas, a newly minted Supreme Court appointee.
But she made international headlines when she accused her boss of sexual harassment, leading to a landmark court case that brought the issue front and center.
Since then, Hill has entered academia and lectured across the nation about women in the legal field and on sexual harassment. Today in Detroit, Hill visited the Detroit International Academy for Young Women, where she was a special guest at an event held by the Anita’s Aspiring Attorneys club, which is named in her honor.
Hill, who also visited the Detroit Institute of Arts, spoke on gender equality during her address to students.
“Say ‘enough is enough’ to sexual harassment,” Hill said, according to Detroit Public Schools. “Enough is enough to physical abuse from our boyfriends and enough is enough to not earning what we are worth in the workplace.”
Hill also told the crowd to not imitate their role models, but instead be the “best ‘you’ you can be” by obeying good morals and ethics.
