When we won in the third round of the playoffs, which nobody thought we’d win, that gave me the chance to come back and play in the semifinals. We won that game and the following week, giving us the state championship. It was a great feeling to end your career on top.
Right when I broke my leg, they said I would be out for four months. I remember that Terrell Owens had a similar injury, but he came back in five or six weeks and was able to play. I knew mine was worse, but I thought that maybe I can make it back. I told [teammate] Orson Charles just to take over, and he did. He gave me the opportunity to come back.
Making it back for the semifinals was awesome. My leg was pretty much wrapped up in a boot, so I couldn’t move too well, but it was great time. The first play, I threw a 40-yard touchdown pass, so that was a pretty good feeling. I thought maybe I can play on one foot. I was a little nervous about that. My line made sure I didn’t get hit that game and then we dominated the state championship game.
